Death (An Experimental Tanka)

He saunters
out of the gloam
whistling a tune
of death, destruction and doom
scythe swinging for a neck.

Shadow Poetry has a long post about the Tanka style of poetry. It lists three ways to write a Tanka. I chose the “Write 5 lines of 31 syllables or LESS, letting the poem dictate the line length” option. Hence the “experimental” part of the Tanka.
