Weekdays (A Series of Lanturnes)

The Lanturne is a shapely poem. Five lines with syllable rules per line so the poem takes on the shape of a Japanese lantern. It didn’t feel right writing just one so I wrote a series worth. Please enjoy.

On
Mondays
the tired
would much rather
sleep.

On
Tuesdays
it’s much the
same but better
now.

On
Wednesdays
I think it’s
Thursday and I’m
sad.

On
Thursdays
get things done.
We are almost
there.

When
Fridays
come, I’m glad
the weekend is
here.

  1. Beautiful form! I really liked the way each day had a lantern lit, or possibly extinguished. I also liked the way the “working week” vibe carried over, counting down the days for the weekend. Lighthearted, soothing. Peaceful, even. Love it!
