Say It’s Spring

Say it’s spring
as winter, in its death throes
sends sheets of freezing rain
and threats of snow.

Say it’s spring
as green life defies the threat of frost
shoots up from the ground
stretching towards the gray sky
be it mild or cold.

Say it’s spring
even when the wind bites
gives you a seeping, bloodless nose
thrashes and screams
until it finally retreats
chased away by warm breezes
and the stillness of lighter evenings.

~*~

Happy first day of Spring, everyone.
